Council at Redeemer

The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer council has general oversight of the life and activities of LCR, as well as, in particular, its worship life, to the end that everything be done in accordance with the Word of God and the faith and practice of the Lutheran Churches in Mission for Christ.

The constitution of LCR establishes a council comprised of ten LCR members elected by the church congregation members for two year terms. Ideally, half of the council is elected in December of each year.  The council president, vice-president and treasurer and secretary comprise the officers of the church.  Management of the church legal affairs and management of the staff is the responsibility of an executive team comprised of the officers plus the pastor.  Key functional responsibilities are assigned to five ministry areas, plus the director of buildings and grounds.

President - Fred Spann I am blessed to have been able to be a part of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer family for the past 13 years. I see my role as Council President as primarily a servant facilitator of the various ministries of the council members and as an interface with the church community. I am grateful to serve with such a great group of dedicated persons as the LCR council. It is a joy to be a part of a church community that in so many ways demonstrates what the Apostle Paul calls the “Body of Christ.”

Treasurer - John Chapman It can be difficult to apply an uplifting minister or job description to "treasurer" because the role may even remind some of Jesus' betrayer. Still, it was a significant role to Jesus, so I try to approach my role only out of love and tend to say yes to everything even when it may be better to say no. Apply a “can do” attitude is my approach!

C0-Minister of Ed. - Melinda Miller I love Vacation Bible School at Redeemer because it's a wonderful opportunity to share the love and light of Christ with children in a fun and engaging way. In addition, giving the children's sermon is always a bright spot in my month. I enjoy being able to bring messages from the Bible to the kids' level and seeing them make connections to their own experiences.

Minister of Evangelism - Reuben Ben-Yonathan First of all, it is a blessing to be a part of God's work and the church, helping to keep it progressing in the the right direction. Secondly, I overwhelmingly support the Alpha program because  I believe it is among the most powerful tools for evangelism the Church has ever had. It is both an honor and a privilege to help others receive the truth of Christ in all our lives and that is what Alpha does!

Director of Resources - Glen Schenk My wife, Edna, and I have been members of Lutheran Church of the Redeemer since its beginning in December 1983. I have now been retired for many years from applied electronics, primarily for the navy. My hobbies include hunting, fishing, ham radio, and watching pro ball.
